How to Prepare for Your Session or Ceremony

A little preparation goes a long way. Here’s what helps most.

You might be wondering if there’s anything you need to do before your session or ceremony. Maybe this is your first time receiving energy healing and you want to make sure you get the most out of it. Or maybe you’ve been before and want to go deeper this time.

The good news: you don’t need to do anything elaborate. The most important thing is to arrive as you are.

ESSENTIALS

Always Recommended

If you only do a few things to prepare, let it be these. They apply to every session and ceremony.

Eat Lightly Beforehand

A light meal or snack 1 to 2 hours before your session is ideal. Avoid heavy meals so your body can direct its energy toward healing rather than digestion. Soups, vegetables, fruit, or a simple grain bowl are all great choices.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water throughout the day before your session. Hydration supports your body’s ability to process and integrate the energy work. Avoid alcohol for at least several hours before your session, and ideally for the full day.

Shower Before Your Session

This is both a physical and energetic practice. A shower beforehand helps cleanse your biofield and creates a fresh starting point for the work we’ll do together. This is especially important because one of the aftercare recommendations is to wait 12 to 24 hours before showering after your session, so arriving clean gives you a comfortable head start.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Loose, comfortable clothes allow your body to relax fully. For group ceremonies, you’ll be sitting or lying on the floor for up to two hours, so dress in layers and choose something you can move comfortably in.

Set an Intention

Before you arrive, take a moment to reflect on what you’re hoping to experience, release, or understand. Try to make your intention specific: rather than “I want to feel better,” something like “I want to find more clarity around this relationship with my partner” or “I want to release the sadness I’ve been carrying around this transition” gives the healing energy a clearer direction. Your booking confirmation email includes a fuller intention-setting guide with reflective questions and examples to help you with this.

Come with an Open Mind

Everyone’s experience is different. Some people feel warmth, tingling, or waves of emotion. Others feel deeply relaxed or even fall asleep. Some notice nothing during the session but feel shifts in the hours and days that follow. There is no “right” experience. Trust that the energy is working on whatever your system needs most.

ADDITIONAL PRACTICES

These are not required, but they can deepen your experience. Click to expand.

Private Pranic Healing Sessions

Remove crystals, large leather items (belts, boots), and silk before your session. These materials can interfere with the flow of energy during Pranic Healing. If your session is virtual, the same guidance applies: find a quiet, comfortable space, remove these items, and settle in a few minutes early so you can relax before we begin.

For in-person private sessions, there is free street parking available. The specific location in Minneapolis will be shared with you when you book.

Everything above applies. In addition, if you tend to get cold easily wear warm clothes. When your body enters a deep state of relaxation during sound healing, your temperature can drop. Being physically comfortable allows you to surrender more fully into the experience.

Bring your own yoga mat or cushion. The studio has a wood floor and does not provide mats. A blanket is also recommended, as your body temperature can drop during deep relaxation. There is a free parking lot at Studio Timeout, plus free street parking nearby if the lot fills up.

Avoid caffeine for at least 4 to 6 hours before the ceremony. Cacao contains theobromine, a natural stimulant, and combining it with caffeine can leave you feeling overstimulated or jittery rather than open and grounded.

Arrive a few minutes early if you can. The transition from your day into ceremonial space matters. Give yourself permission to slow down on the drive over. Put your phone away. Let the shift begin before you walk through the door.

When to use caution or choose a reduced serving of cacao

Because cacao can affect blood vessels, heart rate, and neurotransmitters, some people are better suited to a smaller serving or to skipping cacao entirely. Please inform me before consuming cacao if you: have a heart condition, history of arrhythmia, or uncontrolled high or low blood pressure; take antidepressants, especially monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or higher doses of SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors); are pregnant or breastfeeding; are very sensitive to caffeine or stimulants (for example, prone to palpitations, insomnia, or jitteriness); have a history of anxiety, panic attacks, or other nervous system conditions that are made worse by stimulants; have significant digestive sensitivities such as acid reflux, ulcers, or frequent nausea; or are taking any other medications or herbs that may interact with stimulants or serotonin.

A note on antidepressants and psychiatric medications: cacao influences neurotransmitters and contains tyramine and other compounds that may interact with certain antidepressant medications. Foods rich in tyramine, including chocolate and cacao, can raise blood pressure to unsafe levels when combined with MAOI antidepressants. Some sources also recommend caution with higher doses of SSRIs and other psychiatric medicines, because combining multiple serotonin-acting substances can increase the risk of serotonin-related side effects, especially at ceremonial doses. If you take any antidepressant or psychiatric medication, please consult your prescribing doctor or mental health provider before consuming ceremonial cacao.

If this is your first time, it's completely normal to feel a mix of curiosity and uncertainty. You don't need to believe in energy healing for it to work. You just need to show up, be present, and allow yourself to receive.

Complementary Care

Pranic Healing supports your body’s natural healing process alongside whatever medical or therapeutic care you are receiving. I do not diagnose conditions, and I always encourage clients to continue working with their doctors and therapists. As Grand Master Choa Kok Sui taught: “Pranic Healing is not intended to replace orthodox medicine but rather to complement it.”
